He was 7 years old when he stepped out onto the New Orleans Biddy Basketball court in 1995. He was nearly the smallest on the team; he often took extra steps and he always seemed to take his shot on the run. But Darryl "DJ" Augustin had a glow about him when he played. His love for the game was to take him through six special Biddy seasons. His dedication, hard work and God-given talent turned him into one of the best point-men, playmaker and passer the New Orleans league has ever seen. He was a coach's dream - unselfish, a real team player, talented and defensive minded. In all six Biddy seasons, he participated on six all-star teams. As point-man, DJ "quarterbacked" four of those teams to the ultimate prize of National Biddy Champion. The other two teams advanced to the National Championship game. That's right!! All six teams advanced to the National Championship game with four actually winning the National Championship. DJ was 8 year old MVP and five time All-American. In his last 2001 Biddy season, his thirty foot, 3-point buzzer shot dramatically sent his team to the National Championship game for the sixth and final time. DJ went on to star with Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, and as a freshman at the University of Texas is starting and starring at point guard for the Longhorns. The National Biddy program wishes DJ and all of our graduated players well in their high school endeavors. |
